How to Manually Clean Your Email List
This guide will walk you through the process of cleaning your contact list by removing inactive, unsubscribed, and bounced email addresses.
What you will need:
• A MerwinSaaS account
• A list of contacts
Good email deliverability means your emails land in the inbox rather than the spam folder. Sending emails to non-existent recipients will lower your deliverability rate and can harm your sender reputation. We recommend aiming for a minimum open rate of 20%.
1. Clean Your Email List by Deleting Inactive Contacts
1. Go to the CRM tab in your account, then click on Contacts.
2. Activate the Email activity filter, then choose a date from 1 month ago in the "No email opened or clicked since" field.
3. Use the Contact state filter and select "Has not made any payment yet" to isolate non-customers. This helps preserve customer data for accounting purposes.
4. You will now see all contacts who have not opened or clicked a link in your emails in the last month and who have never purchased anything from you.
5. Select the entire list, then click Delete.
2. Stop Sending Emails to Inactive Contacts
For existing customers, unsubscribe them from emails rather than deleting their records — their purchase history is valuable. Follow these steps to stop sending emails to inactive contacts:
6. Activate the Email activity filter and select a date from 1 month ago in the "No email opened or clicked since" field.
7. Select all contacts, click More actions, then click Unsubscribe from all marketing emails.
Note: You can also assign a tag to your list of inactive contacts and try to re-engage them with an email campaign. However, we advise against trying to re-engage contacts who have been inactive for a very long time.
